Polanski

Born in 1935 in Paris. Film director, screenwriter, actor and producer. A graduate of the Lodz Film School. In 1963 he emigrated from Poland and, as a French citizen, spent a few years in the USA. At present he lives in France. The winner of numerous awards at major film festivals. Some of his films were nominated for an Oscar. He has been working with the brightest stars of the world cinema. Head of the jury at many film festivals. Since 1999 member of the French Academy, a Doctor of Honoris Causa of many universities. Recently received the Golden Sceptre, the Polish Culture Foundation Award.

As an actor he starred e.g. in Wajda's "A Generation" (1955), A. Munk's "Bad Luck" (1959), his "Chinatown (1974) and "The Tenant" (1976), in "Una pura formalita" by Giuseppe Tornatore and recently in Wajda's "Revenge" (2002). He has also created distinguished roles on stage ("Amadeus" by Schaeffer, "Transformation" by Kafka).

A stage and opera director. He published his autobiography "Roman by Roman" in 1989.
